The hurricane, a/k/a Super Storm Sandy, that hit Long Island in October 2012 devastated some communities along the south shore. In particular, Lindenhurst was among the hardest hit. The New York National Guard patrolled the town for several days. Some lost all, all lost some.

The after effects are still evident 4 1/2 years later as the photos indicate. Taken on April 29, 2017 homes overlooking the Great South Bay in the town of Babylon are still having their foundations raised. I can assure you that this is not to get a better view of the bay.
