Some people see a face on Mars in a rock formation. Others have reported seeing Jesus or the Virgin Mary in their bathroom window or on a piece of toast. This phenomenon is known as pareidolia.
At first I thought I was going crazy when I shot the image for this blog. But then I showed it to my son and asked him what he saw in this photo. He replied “Texas”, and that is what I see as well. West Texas to be specific. From Amarillo in the panhandle to El Paso and thence to Big Bend. In reality it is just a simple case of pareidolia. A chunk of asphalt missing from a parking lot.
